To get a glimpse of Jacques and his life, check out the mural painted on the wall of the outdoor patio. Jacques grew up on a farm in Le Puy-en-Velay, an area in the volcanic mountains of the South of France. He grew up learning how to cook from his mother and grandmother before studying at universities in London and Paris. Jacques then learned the restaurant business from the inside---working as a bartender and waiter.

In 1997 Jacques began his life in Milwaukee. After several years working at other restaurants, he knew he could bring a more authentic French experience to the area. So he opened Jacques French Café in 2001. When the time came to move, he moved just a few blocks to a new, larger location where Chez Jacques has been satisfying customers since 2007.

Pairings and a bit of history

The menu features traditional French recipes that have been handed down in Jacques' family as well as the specialties of his classically trained French chef. You’ll be surprised at the mouth-watering variety of dishes representing every region of France. Several menu items showcase the influence of the Alsace region of France bordering Germany.

Chez Jacques also boasts a fully stocked wine cellar with selections from the south of France. He features affordable, full-bodied wines that have been served alongside homemade dishes in kitchens across France for generations. You can also find that many of your meals are perfectly paired with locally brewed beers from Wisconsin.
Local flavors, local support

While Jacques prides himself on bringing a true taste of France to the area, he also believes in the “shop local…buy local…eat local” idea. For example, he trusts a local butcher in Cudahy to re-create his family’s sausage recipe using Wisconsin-raised meat.

In addition to serving a few choice French cheeses, he buys all his dairy products from local suppliers. In summer, the Chez Jacques menu features fruits and vegetables from the local Farmers Markets as well as fresh herbs and other ingredients grown along the edges of the outdoor patio.

At Chez Jacques, you’ll experience the true flavors of France paired with all the best Milwaukee and Wisconsin have to offer. Come in, enjoy a meal and relax for a casual night out, memorable dinner for two or special family celebration.
